Why Winter is the Best Time for Laser Hair Removal

Belladerm • January 6, 2021

With another Minnesota winter in full swing, it’s hard to imagine sporting a bikini, shorts, or your favorite sun dress while digging out from under two feet of snow. Believe it or not, the colder months are optimal to remove unwanted hair so your skin is smooth, glowing, and beach-ready for summer. Read on as we discuss why winter is the best time for laser hair removal.

Exposure to the sun is limited in the winter

Winter is ideal for treatment because there is less chance your skin will be exposed to the sun. Laser hair removal works best on dark hair and pale skin.  Before the laser treatment, we prefer you keep the areas being treated from sun exposure.  Also, because the treatment itself can lead to a temporary increase in skin sensitivity, it’s crucial to keep the targeted areas of the body out of direct sunlight following treatment for 2 – 4 weeks. That’s much easier in the winter, as we wear more clothing.

Prepping for treatment is easier

Because laser hair removal targets active-growth hair follicles, it works best when there’s some amount of hair in the follicle itself. Generally, the treatment won’t work on skin that has been waxed, plucked, or removed by other methods like hair removal cream, as these approaches pull hair out at the root, leaving nothing for the laser to target. The best way to prepare is to shave the treatment area as close to the appointment as possible. The remaining hair growth should be close enough to the skin’s surface so the laser will reach the follicle easily.

Scheduling treatments

Since the laser is only effective at certain stages of active hair growth, laser hair removal usually requires 6 separate treatments spaced 4 – 8 weeks apart depending on the body area, skin tone, and hair type. The best areas for laser hair removal are lower legs, underarms, and bikini lines. Areas of the face, including the chin and upper lip, can be more challenging because the hair is finer and not as easy to remove. It’s important to remember that laser hair removal isn’t a “one size fits all” solution. A consultation with a licensed laser technician at Belladerm MedSpa can determine if laser hair removal is right for you. We’ll customize a treatment plan based on your needs and desired results.

How long will it last?

Results will vary from patient to patient, but typically laser hair removal results in the thinning of the hair and an 80% reduction in growth. For some patients, the results are permanent. However, most patients will require yearly maintenance.  At Belladerm we understand this need and provide up to two maintenance treatments per year, for half price.

Patient getting botox injected into the forehead with a needle
October 1, 2026
Fall is the perfect time to refresh your routine - and that includes your Botox appointments . Whether you’re new to Botox Cosmetic , getting back on schedule, or simply looking to maintain your results, a consistent treatment plan can help you feel refreshed and confident heading into the holiday season. From when to book to what to expect from your results, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about making Botox part of your fall routine. What Does Botox Do? Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that contribute to expression lines and wrinkles, helping soften areas like the forehead, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet. The goal isn’t to change the way you look—it’s to create a refreshed, natural-looking result that still feels like you. Your treatment is customized based on your facial movement, goals, and the areas you’d like to address. How Often Should I get Botox? For many patients, Botox becomes part of a regular maintenance routine, with appointments typically spaced about three to four months apart. When planning your schedule, it can be helpful to think ahead to holidays, vacations, weddings, photos, and other special events. Botox gradually settles in after treatment, with results often looking their most refreshed during the first one to two months before slowly beginning to wear off as you approach your next appointment. Planning your treatments around the moments that matter most can help you feel your best when you want it most. How Long Does Botox Last? Botox results are not immediate, which is why timing your appointment matters. Most patients begin to notice changes within a few days, with fuller results developing over the following one to two weeks. If you’re preparing for a wedding, holiday gathering, family photos, or another special event, booking your Botox treatment at least two weeks in advance can give your results time to fully settle. What Areas Can Botox Treat? Botox can be used to soften a variety of expression lines and help create a more refreshed appearance. Some of the most common Botox treatment areas include: Forehead lines – horizontal lines that appear when raising the eyebrows Frown lines (11s) – vertical lines between the eyebrows Crow’s feet – fine lines around the outer corners of the eyes Bunny lines – lines that appear along the sides of the nose Lip flip – a subtle treatment that can help the upper lip appear slightly more pronounced Chin dimpling – helps smooth a pebbled or dimpled appearance in the chin Downturned corners of the mouth – can help create a softer, more relaxed appearance Neck (Platysmal) bands – may help soften prominent vertical bands in the neck Your provider will customize your Botox treatment based on your facial movement, anatomy, and goals to help maintain a natural-looking result. Fall is a Great Time to Start a Botox Routine Fall is a great time to get consistent with your Botox routine. With holiday gatherings, family photos, parties, and end-of-year events right around the corner, planning your treatments now can help ensure your results are at their best when your calendar gets busy.
