WebMD has an intriguing article about how our thankfulness can affect our health. The article suggests that if you want to get healthier, give thanks. Here is an excerpt:
“Grateful people take better care of themselves and engage in more protective health behaviors like regular exercise, a healthy diet, regular physical examinations,” Emmons tells WebMD. Emmons is a psychology professor and he explains how “gratitude research” is showing that people who live with gratitude as a permanent trait, instead of a temporary state of mind, can cope better with stress, and therefore are healthier all around.
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Here’s to a heart full of gratitude and a healthier you! We at Belladerm are grateful for the chance to serve you. Thank you for putting your trust in us!

This time of year can be maddening when you look in the mirror and see red eyes, puffiness, allergy “shiners” and a red nose. And all about the time you want some nice family photos for the Christmas card. They have termed it “allergy face” and there ARE ways to combat it! Zyrtec found in a study that 81% of women with allergies don’t believe they can fully cover up their symptoms, however.
You’ll find loads of information online, but some of the fast tips you can glean are:
- DO use extra moisturizer as the allergy meds can dry you out, making skin appear more flaky
- DO use a humidifier as another method to keep skin more hydrated
- DON’T do nothing – there are many wonderful products and things you can do at home to help
- DO consider using a silvery eyeliner or a blue eyeliner, which will combat the redness and make the whites appear more white
- DO layer a bronzer with blush to chisel the cheekbones more, which helps a puffy face look better
- DO apply cold compresses to swollen areas – a cold spoon is a popular choice for puffy eyes
- DO draw attention elsewhere with bold color, like on your lips
- DO buy a green color correction concealer and play with it until you find what works best – layering under skin-toned concealer
Even if you get to the pool and slather sunscreen on your face and body before you spend the day in the sun, you’ve likely forgotten something important — your lips. Using a sunscreen on your lips protects you in two ways. First, because the sun ages skin (lips included), the sunscreen keeps your lips feeling and looking healthy and vibrant. Second, skipping the sun protection in your lip products puts you at an increased risk of getting skin cancer or another skin condition.
Sun damage leads to skin losing some of its elasticity, and unprotected lips are no exception. Also, lips naturally have thin skin, and sun damage can make the skin appear even thinner.
If you like to add luster to your lips with lip gloss, keep in mind that lip gloss without SPF might increase the possibility of developing skin cancer by acting as a kind of magnifying glass for the sun’s rays. You might want to consider using a lip gloss with SPF, layering a lip product with SPF of at least 30 underneath or foregoing the lip gloss completely and switching to a matte lip product with SPF.
Since sun damage builds up over time, it’s never too late to start good practices to give your lips some sun protection! Belladerm has complimentary lip balm with SPF15 because we care about keeping your lips luxurious!
