Warm weather is here and we’re no longer able to cover up our love handles with bulky sweaters like we could in the colder months. Many men and women struggle to fight off the last 5-20 lbs on the way to their goal. We have some quick answers to common questions for people fighting the fat war, but first—we can’t wait to announce a new service we will be offering at Belladerm in July!
CoolSculpting is the proven non-surgical fat reduction treatment that delivers undeniable results. It’s FDA-cleared, safe and backed by clinical
testing. You can lose that stubborn fat without special diets, surgery, supplements or downtime. We know you’re going to love this new service!
How does it work? CoolSculpting is a breakthrough, non-invasive procedure that uses cooling technology to noticeably eliminate fat without surgery. Using a technology developed by Harvard scientists, CoolSculpting targets and freezes fat cells causing their natural death in the treatment area. It’s completely non-invasive so there is no cutting, no needles and no anesthesia. Patients typically read, work on their laptops, listen to music or relax during the procedure. Stay tuned for more information and a feature article in our July newsletter.
Now, on to those tips for battling the bulge:
Solo or with a Diet Buddy?
Getting support from a diet buddy, especially one you live with, helps you soldier on when you’d rather skip your daily walk and eat a double cheeseburger and fries instead.
Help for Emotional Eaters?
If you ARE getting support from someone else who is dieting, alert your buddy when you feel a binge coming on. If possible, take a short walk or a bike ride together to take the focus away from food.
Make a list of non-food related activities to do together or alone when you have the urge to drown your sorrows in food.
To Weigh or Not to Weigh?
Is it a good idea to weigh yourself every day when you are on a diet? It turns out that daily weighing may benefit your waistline. Researchers at the University of Minnesota monitored the weigh-in habits of about 1,800 dieting adults and found that those who stepped on the scale every day lost an average of 12 pounds over two years, while weekly scale watchers lost only six. Daily weigh-ins also meant dieters were less likely to regain lost weight.
It Just Isn’t Fair!
Losing weight is often a slower process for women then for men, making daily weigh-ins frustrating for women who have male diet partners. To avoid tension with your partner, try to avoid comparing your weight loss pound for pound and really concentrate on how clothes are fitting and how you feel, rather than just what the scale reads.
Eating in a bikini doesn’t have to give you nightmares any more. Here, summer snacks that will leave you satisfied without packing on pounds.
- Carrots: Carrot sticks are the best snacks to munch on during the summer because the orange pigment beta-carotene gives skin an extra glow while protecting cells from free radical damage. Carrots protect your skin from sun damage (though you still need to wear SPF) while giving you a boost of energy.
- Iced Green: Skip the bloating with your diet soda and sip on chilled green tea to boost your metabolism throughout the day.
- Baked Protein Chips Protein chips are an easy option to throw in your beach bag and will keep you fuller longer. They are low in fat, so they won’t leave you with that ‘gross feeling’ after you eat them.
- Frozen Grapes: Not only will this icy treat boost your skin with antioxidants, they are also perfect for staying cool in the summer heat. Plus, each frozen grape is only three calories, so you can munch away without guilt.
- Water: Though seltzer is a healthy alternative to soda and other sugary drinks, water is the best option to hydrate you inside and out on a hot day.
- Protein Shake: Protein shakes are easy to bring to the beach, all you need to do is stick a packet in your bag along with some water to mix. They’re creamy and filling, without causing you to crash midday from extra sugar.
- 100% Fruit Juice: Cold fruit juices containing low-glycemic sugars are full of antioxidants. Just remember to make sure it’s 100 percent natural juice, other fruit drinks are packed with unwanted sugar and calories.
True, but plenty of beauty junkies are still in the dark when it comes to what’s up with them. What’s the difference between a serum and a cream? Why are they so expensive? And most importantly, have you considered trying one? Here are some reasons why you might want to consider making serums a weapon in your skincare arsenal.
You have a serious skin challenge.
Cosmetic chemists and derms maintain that serums tend to be more efficacious than plain old-school moisturizers due to the method of delivery: Serums are more concentrated so they’re able to penetrate more deeply than creams, according to Ni’Kita Wilson, YouBeauty Cosmetic Chemistry Expert. That makes these products ideal for troubleshooting specific problems such as redness, acne and hyperpigmentation. For example, rosacea sufferers might try a serum that contains azulene, which can help calm irritated skin.
You have ultra oily skin.
Oily skin types tend to avoid rich, heavy oil-based creams like the plague since they can clog pores and bring on breakouts. But skimping on a moisturizer means losing out on potential anti-aging benefits. What’s more, drying out your skin can actually result in increased oil production. Luckily, most serums are water-based and lightweight enough to slather on sans an oily aftermath. Bonus: Formulas that contain vitamin C or luminizers tend to impart a gorgeous glow, leaving skin looking hydrated and healthy—not sweaty. Top off with an oil-free, gel-based sunscreen.
You have super dry days.
Wintertime is notorious for causing your skin to turn dry and flaky—and even the creamiest, richest moisturizer isn’t always enough. Many serums are formulated to act as boosters to heavier creams by providing a crucial layer of vitamins and essential oils that the cream effectively “seals” into skin. Think of a serum as a strong foundation and cream as a protective barrier. Look for serums that contain super-hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid.
Belladerm carries some amazing serums like iS Clinical and we’d love to explain their benefits to you and help you decide which one suits your needs best. Drop by to chat with us or learn more about our products here.
